Ice Blocking

Well, it's pretty hard to find sledding opportunities here in AZ. Yes, we can drive up to Payson or Flagstaff, but that's not really convenient. One substitute that works really well here is ice blocking. One big advantage of ice blocking over sledding is that you don't get nearly as cold. One disadvantage is that if you fall off your ice block, there's no soft pillow of snow to fall into!

There is a park near our house with a great smooth hill. When Tyler and Angie came down to visit, we took the kids over to hit the slope. When we got to the park, there were already about 30 people sliding down the hill. One kid was using a furniture dolly- and he really got some speed. Some kids were even sliding on cardboard, which surprisingly worked really well.

It was a lot of fun, and a lot of good exercise getting back up the hill for another run. Of course Tyler had the most fun thinking of creative ways to go down the hill. He liked to use multiple blocks of ice and multiple people in various configurations. Most of his ideas worked- at least the crashes didn't cause any injuries!

Just think- sledding with shorts and t shirts.

Looks like fun. The furniture dolly sounds a bit unsettling. I can imagine a few wipe-outs that are quite gruesome. I'd stick with ice.

That does look fun. I am jealous every day of your weather... until May. Then I thank my lucky stars I am not there.
